Art is an owner of Hanson + Doremus and leads the firm’s marketing and client relations efforts. He works closely with clients to help them better understand their financial lives, build thoughtful long-term plans, and manage investment portfolios aligned with their goals. Art joined the firm in 2016, drawn to a team that has served this community since 1995 and is committed to doing meaningful, high-quality work in clients’ best interests.
At his core, Art is a coach. Whether advising clients, teaching students, or coaching athletes, his approach starts with listening, asking thoughtful questions, and helping people build confidence and make steady progress over time. He enjoys breaking down complex financial topics into clear, practical guidance and serving as a steady partner as clients navigate change, opportunity, and uncertainty.
Before joining Hanson + Doremus, Art spent eight years at TD Ameritrade and TD Wealth as a Financial Consultant, where he worked with individuals and families to build financial plans and investment strategies focused on long-term goals.
Art is a CFP® professional and earned his BSBA in International Management from the University of Vermont. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Champlain program. He previously served as Vice Chairman of the Corporate Board and Chair of the Investment Subcommittee at Wake Robin Continuing Care Retirement Community in Shelburne.
One of Art’s greatest professional passions is teaching personal finance at the University of Vermont, where he works with undergraduate students each semester to help them build strong financial foundations.
Art lives in South Burlington with his wife and three children. Outside of work, you’ll most often find him coaching youth sports in the community — particularly club and high school soccer — or spending time outdoors backcountry skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and cooking for friends and family.
