Sven is the Managing Partner at Hanson+Doremus and has been with the firm since 2007. With the support of the incredible H+D team, he oversees the business and works closely with clients to help them navigate their financial lives. Sven loves helping people make sense of their financial situations, managing investment portfolios, and guiding clients through thoughtful, long-term financial planning.
For Sven, the best part of the job is building long-term relationships and helping clients reach both their financial and personal goals. While his title may be Financial Advisor, he often prefers to be called a “financial psychologist,” recognizing that money decisions are as much emotional as they are analytical.
Over the years, Sven has worn just about every hat at the firm — from handyman to head of operations, head of bond and equity trading, and Chief Compliance Officer, to name a few. He is deeply grateful to founders Eric Hanson and Anne Doremus for believing in him and for the opportunity to continue their legacy of doing meaningful, high-quality work for clients.
Sven is a CFP® professional and earned his BS in Community Development and Applied Economics, with a concentration in Small Business Management, from the University of Vermont. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Champlain program.
Sven lives in Essex, Vermont with his wife and three children. Outside of work, you’ll most often find him on a ski slope, a golf course, or a ball field — frequently coaching youth sports, one of his greatest passions. Sven is deeply committed to his community and currently serves on the boards of Essex United Soccer, Tree Farm Sports, and the Deer Crossing Homeowners Association. He recently stepped down after more than 10 years of service as the head of Essex Town Little League and from the Leadership Champlain Alumni Committee.
